Retro Round 6 - Greenhills

Greetings,

The final retro round saw local core lords equipped with few fin fixtures, waterboarded Webbers and candle coloured surfcraft. To some, these craft are a flotation friendly staple of the surfers quiver, to others they had to literally dig their retro relics out of the earth (ask Todd Mison for the treasure map).

Spicing things up even more than the set style of the day the comp was run alike to the Australian Board Riders Battle tag team event (although slightly less organised). With four teams, four colours and four brain-cells between the crew, I’d be lying if I said the basic rules and teams list didn’t have to be repeated multiple times by the head marshal. Despite this, most of the team leaders were on their way out of the gates with the rest figuring it out as they went along.

The Yellow team, hard done by Head Judge “Finn Wilkie” unfortunately came dead last. Despite having two family members onboard and being the most colour coordinated team (see photo). Formality Finn definitely didn’t hand out any brownie points. Thanks Finn. The Blue team looking like the favourites at one point weren’t far ahead either with their total score just not taking the cake.

Team Red and Team Green took out the most points by far with the Green team ultimately taking the win off the red team by a single point. A true testament to how every point, every surfer and a twenty dollar bill slipped to the judge all adds up towards the win. The winning team consisted of Toby Dunn, Curtis Wilson, Isaac “Toad” Tooher and father and son combo Todd & Joey Mison. Great work team.

Following the competition and a quick free surf a short presentation to wrap up the season ensued. With such a short year on the books, points were added down to the wire and the last retro round unusually came into effect. The season winners are as follows:

Open Men’s Division Winner: Joey Mison

Open Female Division Winner: Ella Gollan

Junior Men’s Division Winner: Jasper Wilkie

Masters/Legends Division Winner: Dave Gollan

Congratulations winners! Special thanks to No.23 Candles, Bondi Tallow, Maroubra Surf & Skate and Villa Asri for the prize packs. Additionally thanks to all our sponsors throughout the season for making CBRC tick we couldn't have done it without you <3.
